Hi! My name is Lorena and I’m originally from Colombia. I arrived in the United States more than three years ago and I can define my immigration story in two words: love and effort. When I arrived here I didn’t speak English at all and I had to do unskilled jobs to live; but at one point in my life here I decided that I had to learn the language to be able to adapt to this culture and integrate into society. I made a great effort to learn the language and at the same time I began my studies in Early Childhood through a scholarship that I won at the Mesa Colorado University.
After many hours of studying and dedication I got my degree in Child Development Bilingual Early Childhood Education in October 2024 and since then I have worked as Director of Paradise Place Preschool.
I currently alternate my work in Paradise with teaching Spanish to the children of the Gunnison Elementary School and at the same time I am taking a bachelor’s degree in education in my alma mater.
I really enjoy my life in this beautiful town, where I have been able to find warmth and respect in all the people I have surrounded myself with; I feel gratitude and love for CB and I would like to continue growing professionally in this place next to my husband and my children, who are the soul of my life.
